Hopes for route from Cardiff Airport to Paris dashed                        July 23 2010

Air France has dashed hopes that they may open a direct route from Cardiff Airport to Paris.

Mr Hourcade, the general manager of AirFrance-KLM UK said: “We have a long-term commitment to Cardiff Airport where we have been for many years.

“Our intention is to develop customer loyalty and our ties with the leisure sector through tour operators in the region. Cardiff is a strong regional airport and the service to Schiphol means it has a link to 900 destinations worldwide.

“Our aim is to build on this commitment while remaining a strong partner whose loyalty is to our customers both in the corporate and tourist sectors.”

“If we can convince Welsh customers they can fly with KLM from Cardiff this could be a development in creating a Paris flight,” he said. “What we must do is convince customers that flying from Cardiff to Schiphol is a better option than a car journey to Heathrow.

"We trust the Welsh market recognise the potential time and cost savings flying directly from Wales and fully support the service during 2010 to ensure its long term success.

"We will continue to work closely with flyglobespan and tourism partners to increase inbound visitors into Wales, with Cardiff Airport as the gateway to the country."
